![]() Ruby was six years old when on Christmas day her Grandmother gave her a rocking chair. The rocking chair was bright blue with daisies on the seat. She was very excited about her present. The rocking chair was just like Grandma's! She remembered Grandma rocking her to sleep while singing Lou-Lou My Baby.
Ruby put the rocking chair right by the fireplace in her living room and would pretend to rock her baby dolls to sleep singing the same song her Grandma sung. Her Grandma watched her day after day doing all sorts of different things while she was in the rocking chair. Ruby read, knitted, and even fell asleep in the chair when she was tired. She was just like Grandma!
Eventually Grandma did not come over as often to watch Ruby. Ruby and Grandma talked on the telephone. Ruby knew that Grandma was in her own rocking chair at her own home reading, knitting and sleeping. In time, Grandma did not come over at all. Ruby learned that Grandma was sick and had a hard time getting out of bed. So Ruby brought her rocking chair to Grandma's house. Together they rocked and talked about baby animals and other things. This helped Grandma feel better.
Then one day Ruby rocked alone and found a letter on Grandma's rocking chair. It read, "Dear Ruby, I hope you like your chair. I have had happy times rocking with you. Think of me when you are in your rocking chair. Love, Grandma."
Ruby kept her rocking chair for many years and gave it to her own child. Ruby then rocked in Grandma's chair while her daughter rocked in Ruby's chair. The end.
