Citizen Tanouye
Students from Torrance, Calif. research the life and times of Technical Sergeant Ted Tanouye (1919-1944), a distinguished alumnus of their school posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic service during World War II. Tanouye fought loyally overseas - and later killed in the line of duty - while his family, and other American citizens of Japanese ancestry, were "relocated" to internment camps. Through their investigation of school yearbooks, newspapers and the Internet, and conversations with World War II veterans, the students learn about the war's impact on their city and discover the civil rights abuses of World War II-era America.Air Date
