American Experience "The Nuremberg Trials"
Hermann Goering on trial On November 20, 1945, the 21 surviving representatives of the Nazi elite stood before an international military tribunal at the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, Germany; they were charged with the systematic murder of millions of people. The ensuing trial pitted U.S. Chief Prosecutor and Supreme Court Judge Robert Jackson against Hermann Goering, the former head of the Nazi air force. For Jackson, this trial would make the statement that crimes against humanity would never again go unpunished.
Hermann Goering, former head of the Nazi air force and most prominent surviving member of the Nazi elite, appeared before the Nuremberg Tribunal on November 20, 1945, as one of 21 defendants in the first-ever trial to put an entire national government in the dock. "The Nuremberg Trials" tells the dramatic story of the tribunal that set a new precedent for the judgment of evil.
