Mackinac Island: Mecca of the Midwest
This program is an offbeat look at the people who help create and maintain the dreamscape that draws a million tourists a year to this tiny seasonal Midwestern vacation destination. Through a series of intimate and often funny profiles, this program reveals behind-the-scene glimpses into the lives of the artists and shop-keepers who lovingly paint their impressions of the island, the horsemen and women who operate the island's four-legged fleet, an exclusive peek at what it takes to maintain the world-renowned Grand Hotel, a guided tour by a historian/naturalist, a look into the poetic life of the mind with a celebrity biographer, and a fun, fact-filled demonstration of fudge as theater.
