American Muslim Teens Talk
With Iraq grabbing headlines everyday, the American Muslim community, particularly the young people, rarely see their culture and heritage in a positive light on television.
Thrust into the media spotlight following 9/11, Muslim teenagers in the United States have often faced suspicion and intolerance. This half-hour special features nine teens in a refreshing, first-person look at modern Muslim American youth who illustrate the diversity that is Islam: they are African-American, American Caucasian, Middle Eastern, from the Asian subcontinent and Africa.
Moderated by Alex Kronemer, one of the producers of PBS' Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet (Executive Produced by Al Perlmutter), the American Muslim Teens Talk participants engage in a lively and honest conversation about fitting-in, prayer, stereotypes, Islamic attire, fun, drinking, dating, and parents. Learning about the world through their eyes will dispel myths.
