And Thou Shalt Honor: National Caregiving Town Hall Meeting
To help our Nation celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the Older Americans Act on July 14, 1965, and to analyze the role of the Federal government in caregivng and healthcare for our elders today and tomorrow, the And Thou Shalt Honor (ATSH) caregiving team went to Washington, DC in early March to try to get answers to questions that had been raised over the past two years in a series of 9 PBS-televised caregiving town hall meetings through 14 states. Over a ten-day period, Dale Bell, executive producer of the original And Thou Shalt Honor PBS caregiving outreach project in October 2002 with Harry Wiland, took cameras into the offices of the head of CMS Dr. Mark McClellan, Senators Clinton, Grassley, Bond, Mikulski, Craig, and Boxer. Medicaid, private-public partnerships, long term care insurance, reverse mortgages, the Ronald Reagan Alzheimer's Breakthrough Bill, the National Family Caregivers support Program, and the upcoming White House Conference on Aging comprise some of the subjects discussed.Air Date
