Matters of Race - Elayna
I get depressed when I see with my own eyes the painful and sometimes fatal results of racism. There are people who say we have made so much progress since the days of slavery and the Japanese concentration camps. Have we really made that much progress or did we start so deep in the hole that it may take much more time and even more set backs util we can dig our selves out?
The media can sometimes teach us Stereotypes of different races, our family, teachers and friends can influence our veiws and opinions of people from backgrounds different then our own. Ultimately each person decides how they will interact with people of different races and if they will believe the stereotypes or that one race is better than another.
Racism is like a disease similar to Cancer or Aids. Although there has been tremendous progress it is still a major problem among Americans and people all over the world. I similarity to Cancer or Aids racism may be getting better but it will most likely never go away.
It seems like bridges are being made between the different races but some one or some event comes along and knocks it down and then we are left to pick up the pieces and start again. But as long as we make more bridges then are knocked then our race the entire human race as a whole may have a fighting chance.
