Internships
Internships are available at Detroit Public Television in the Brand Management and Production departments. Both departments offer exposure and involvement with many phases of television production and promotion. Interns are not paid, but academic credit is available.
Enrollment is open and based upon a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for 12 to 16 weeks. To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter to:

communications Internship Opportunity
The communications internship is designed to give hands-on promotion, marketing, and branding experience. You'll assist the Detroit Public Television Brand Management department in all aspects of program and event promotion including creating and maintaining website content, researching promotion opportunities, assisting in day to day operations of the department, and other duties as assigned. The primary duties of the internship are as follows:
  • Maintain and update genre-specific pages on dptv.org
  • Create new and updated content for program descriptions and various other pages on dptv.org
  • Assist in the production of promotional on air spots including script writing, tape logging, and overseeing edit sessions
  • Update and create content for Detroit Public Television's MySpace and Facebook pages
  • Assist with other online and on-air communications as needed
  • Assist with station events as needed
The ideal candidate will be a college student or recent graduate looking to gain experience in the Communications and Broadcasting fields. Course studies in communications, broadcasting, or website design are preferred. The candidate should also be a self-starter, good writer and proofreader, motivated, and organized. Excellent computer skills are a must.
This is a 20 hour per week unpaid internship lasting for a minimum of 3 months. Hours and days are flexible.

Marketing Internship Opportunity
Detroit Public Television seeking an Intern for its Corporate Marketing Department
The marketing internship is designed to give you hands-on marketing experience in the local Detroit Market in a non-profit environment. You will assist the Corporate Marketing team in all phases of generating corporate support for public television and radio. You will learn the day-to-day operations of the department first hand and gain valuable experience in the following:
  • Identifying prospective program sponsors
  • Researching of the Detroit area market using Nielsen Rating information, Trac Media, MRI Data, Media Audit and PBS Connect
  • Preparing sales materials for presentations
  • Updating and maintaining information about DPTV programs
  • Assisting other members of the team in areas of Database management, traffic, production, accounting and sales.
The ideal candidate will be a Junior or Senior looking to gain experience in the Marketing/Media Planning field and should be majoring in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field. The candidate should also be a self-starter, motivated and very organized. Excellent computer skills are a must and familiarity with the research tools is desirable.
This is a 20 hour per week, unpaid internship lasting for 12-16 weeks. Hours and days are flexible.
